Our Projects - Victorian Walnut Hall Tree with Marble Shelf and Cast Iron Basins

This is a Victorian era walnut hall tree with a white marble shelf, mirror and umbrella holders.  This piece had been painted at one point and then badly stripped and soft of repaired.  The pedimont was off, one of the umbrella loops was broken off and all of the pegs were loose or broken off.  Several really bad repairs had been done to the base over the years and they would have to be undone and correctly replaced.

Here we have the hall tree as we received it.

This image shows all the parts gathered together.  Note the cast iron basins with at least 4 coats of paint.  They were sand blasted and repainted in the original black.

In this picture you cas see that one of the umbrella loops is completely seperated from the stand.  The loop itself was broken and had to be fitted back together.

This was the part of the back panel for the mirror.  Levi Brothers of NY was a turn of the century department store.  I don't know if this panel was added after the fact or by Levi Brothers when new.

Here we have the hall tree fully reassembled, stained with a light walnut aniline dye and finished with a satin lacquer.

Here is a closer view of the upper half of the hall tree showing the pedimont and hat pegs reinstalled.

The base of the stand showing the umbrella loop reinstalled.  What you can not see are the repairs to the base itself.

Thank You ???? The desk is for our daughter and it turned out amazing! It belonged to her Great Grandfather and we are so excited to have it back in use!!
